The Short Version
We don't upload, store, or access your files. All file conversions happen locally in your browser. We don't require an account. We don't track what files you convert. This is the core of our privacy promise.
1. File Processing
Convertly processes most file conversions entirely in your browser using client-side technologies including Canvas API, Web Audio API, FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, pdf-lib, pdf.js, and JavaScript. Your files are never uploaded to any server for these conversions.
A small number of complex format conversions may require server-side processing. These tools are clearly labeled on their respective pages. For any server-side processing, files are deleted immediately after conversion and are never stored or accessed by us beyond the conversion process.
2. Data We Collect
We collect minimal data necessary to operate the service:
- • Basic analytics (page views, anonymous, privacy-respecting)
- • No personal information (no account, no email, no name)
- • No file data (files never leave your browser for client-side tools)
- • No tracking of which tools you use or what you convert
3. Cookies
Convertly uses a single localStorage entry to remember your theme preference (light or dark mode). We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party cookies.
4. Advertising
We may display privacy-respecting advertisements on free tool pages to support the service. These ads do not have access to your files or conversion data. Premium subscribers see no advertisements.
5. Premium Subscriptions
If you subscribe to a premium plan, we collect payment information through our payment processor (Stripe). We receive your email address and subscription status but do not store credit card details. Premium features like batch conversion and cloud storage integration may involve additional data processing as described at signup.
6. Your Rights
Under GDPR and other privacy regulations, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Since we don't collect personal data for free tool usage, there's nothing to delete. For premium subscribers, contact us to exercise your rights.
